Key Takeaways

  • Audi RS 4 Avant edition 25 years debuts as a limited edition performance wagon with 464 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.
  • Limited to just 250 units, with available Imola Yellow exterior paint.
  • Performance upgrades include adjustable coilover suspension and ceramic brakes.

Audi is celebrating 25 years of a performance icon with a new special edition of the RS 4 Avant, a desirable wagon not offered in the United States. Limited to just 250 examples, the edition 25 years gets more power than the standard model and aesthetic enhancements that hark back to the original RS4 Avant, one of the most revered Audi RS models.

The 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 now produces 464 hp (an increase of 20 hp) and a respectable 443 lb-ft of torque. The power bump has improved performance, with 0-62 mph taking just 3.7 seconds. The top speed is rated at 186 mph, giving this compact wagon the same potential as supercars of years gone by. Launch control is also equipped as standard.

Ceramic Brakes And Adjustable Coilovers

In addition to the brawnier powertrain, Audi has fitted the limited-edition RS4 Avant with an RS ceramic brake system as standard. RS sport suspension pro is also part of the package and includes manually adjustable coilovers that sharpen handling and dynamic response. This is also offered on the new RS6 Avant GT. The RS 4 Avant edition is 25 years old and sits 0.4 inches lower than the standard model. Owners can lower the vehicle by an additional 0.4 inches, resulting in a ride height of up to 0.8 inches lower than the regular RS 4. A quattro sport differential has also been fitted.

Unique to the RS 4 Avant edition 25 years, Audi has revisited the front axle’s negative camber, increasing it by two degrees. Stiffer control arms were also fitted, with the improvements resulting in greater cornering abilities, particularly at higher speeds. An upgraded Torsen differential and a fixed subframe on the rear axle improve stability and provide improved feedback to the driver. Lastly, the transmission control unit has been retuned for more rapid shifting times, and the turbocharged V6 sings through an RS sport exhaust system.

Classic Imola Yellow Makes A Return

As a tribute to the older model, the latest RS 4 special edition will be available in Imola Yellow, one of the signature colors offered on the B5 RS4. Customers looking for a more subtle shade can choose from Nardo Gray and Mythos Black. The exterior features gloss black trim and unique black inlays in the taillights, while the LED headlights sport darkened bezels. Audi has also removed the roof rails for a more athletic appearance.

The windows between the C and D pillars have a subtle “RS 4 edition 25 years” engraving. Matte carbon fiber accents on the sill extensions, diffuser clip, front blades, and side mirrors add a slight hint of aggression to the overall styling. 20-inch machined alloy wheels finished in Palladium matte are standard. They’re forged and weight-optimized, with a modified wheel offset for a sportier look. These are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. Customers also get a second set of wheels, comprising matte black 20-inch wheels and Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo RS semi-slick rubber. A Pirelli Track Adrenaline system informs drivers about tire pressures and temperatures. This is available through a phone app that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Leather And Alcantara-Trimmed Interior Receives Special Touches

The interior is inspired by the 2001 RS4 Sport, which has black and yellow leather/Alcantara upholstery. Instead of the traditional red Audi Sport rhombus, the edition 25 years receives a yellow rhombus and interior stitching. RS bucket seats with a carbon fiber backrest and honeycomb stitching are trimmed in deep black leather and Dinamica upholstery.

Customers can specify a suede steering wheel with a center marking for €2,270 ($2,470), and Audi recommends drivers wear gloves when using the flat-bottomed wheel. On the center console storage bin, you’ll find a plaque with the vehicle’s name and each vehicle’s build number, from 1 to 250. Audi says the RS4 Avant edition 25 years will be available to order from June 2024, with a price tag of €142,905 ($155,450), making it more expensive than the US-spec RS 6 Avant performance, which retails for $125,800.

RS 5 Sportback Gets A Performance Edition

Sadly, while the RS 4 Avant isn’t heading to America, Audi has also introduced an RS 5 Sportback performance edition. It also receives a healthy power bump, producing 464 hp and 443 lb-ft. Like the limited edition RS4 Avant, the RS5 performance edition has a top speed of 186 mph and a 0-62 mph time of 3.7 seconds. RS sport suspension pro and dynamic steering are also available, with pricing starting at €128,420 ($139,720). Audi has yet to confirm whether this model will be offered in the USA, but we hope it reaches our shores. Audi is also introducing a limited edition watch called the Chronograph RS 4 Avant edition 25 years. It is limited to 250 units and includes black and yellow details like the car that inspired it.
